This paper describes the specific feeding habits of two red-backed vole species (Clethrionomys) in the taiga area over the Kolyma River right side in summer time. Changes in the feeding spectrum are reported through the vole population cycle and are, as well, shown to be due to the vole’s biotope conditions. As it is established, changes in the number of voles are not connected with the cropping power. On the basis of available starvation characteristics, a conclusion is made about a trophic intensity in vole populations during the years of their high numbers. An inter-species trophic competition is assumed in over-numbered vole populations. |
