E-mail:
It is a common viewpoint that an all-round preservation of native traditions in the north suggests as well such typical subsistence activities of native people there as reindeer husbandry and different seasonal activities. However, these traditional activities have a low potential versus the number of native people in the north. As a result, there is a change in the development paradigm of native people there. At present, the Chukchi, Koryak or Even people needn’t necessarily be reindeer breeders or hunters nor stay in tundra or taiga. Reindeer husbandry is now a way to rationally develop rich biologic resources in the northern areas of the Russian Far East; it shall also help to solve the problem of jobs for the natives there. Therefore, the traditional subsistence activities are to be supported at the federal level irrespective of their ownership status and shall develop on the basis of new technological achievements.
Keywords:  northern reindeer husbandry, traditional subsistence activities.
