This paper contains the description of floras and environments typical of poplar (Populus suaveolensis) and chosenia (Chosenia arbutifolia) forests over their northern limit areas in southern Chukotka. The authors delineate the deciduous forest areas there and report the main factors affecting the share of chosenia and poplar forests in the environment of southern Chukotka including the following: the floodplain processes, presence of taliks (seasonally thawing rock beds in permafrost areas) and soil types. Poplar-chosenia forests do not grow on sands and silt soils. The majority of Boreal flora species are related to poplar-chosenia forests and their different plant communities over the northern Koryak Highland areas.
Keywords:  floodplain, chosenia-poplar forest, northern chosenia treeline, southern Chukotka.
